Best Apps to Track Your Menstrual Cycle, Ovulation and Pregnancy
Women have a fertility window of about 6 days and, during this period, it isn’t guaranteed that one can conceive as there is some deep rooted science involving the timing of the egg. How do you know when this magical window of fertility is? You start by tracking your menstrual cycle (i.e. keeping a record of your period and other monthly changes). With a little know-how, you can begin to understand how long your cycles are, when you typically ovulate, and when you’re most likely to get pregnant.
You can manually track your cycle on paper but, let’s face it, having an app at your fingertips is much easier (plus, it can do all the fertility math for you).
Here on the Peach and Flora team, the most popular apps that people on our team have used (or are currently using) to track their menstrual cycles, ovulation and pregnancy are the Flo app and the Baby Centre app. If you’re ready to get pregnant or are even just thinking about it, find out more about these two apps below:
- Flo
This app is so popular that you’re probably either already using it or someone has already recommended it to you! It is very comprehensive!
Several users of this app log in daily to record their ovulation and period symptoms, which inturn shows the users what is going on in their bodies at particular times during their reproductive cycles.
When pregnancy occurs, Flo can also track your pregnancy journey efficiently. Flo has both free and paid versions. There are basic features that are accessible for free while the Premium content is paid for monthly. It includes several features including unlimited access to Flo and video courses.
- Baby Center
Baby Center App is expertly designed to help you through your pregnancy and your baby’s first year of life. During pregnancy, this app will take you through all the changes your body is experiencing, give you tips on how to cope with the body aches, and send you developmental images of what your baby looks like at each stage. When the little one finally arrives, this app will help you track all your baby’s milestones, offer advice on the best routines to implement for your baby’s growth and development, and, best of all, you will be able to connect with other mothers who have babies the same age as yours as they share their own tips and experiences.
Besides Flo and Baby Center, there are a few other apps that women across the world use. Here are some other apps you might want to consider trying:
- Clue Period and Cycle Tracker
The Clue Period tracker works to not only predict when it’s that time of the month, but it also helps you understand your menstrual calendar. It shows when you’re ovulating, when you’re most fertile plus has a built-in pill reminder if you decide to go back on the pill.
If you also struggle with PMS, this app can also track your symptoms and predict when you’re most likely to feel crampy as well as how heavy your flow is likely to be on that day. In order for it to be as accurate as possible, the app allows you to log and track just about everything during your monthly cycle so this is a great app if you also want to track your menstrual symptoms.
- Ovia Health
Ovia requires that the user inputs their fertility data into the app. It will then be able to predict fertility scores so that you can easily tell when you are likely to conceive. You can keep a record of your exercise, sleep and meal routines with this app. What’s more, there is an Ovia community from which you can readily receive support and ask questions at any time. The information from the app can also be exported so you can share it with your doctor or friends if you would like.
The best part about all this is that it’s entirely FREE!
- Period Tracker
This app uses simple data entry to help the user know when to expect their monthly period and track their fertile window. The app gives micro details on different symptoms your body might experience during ovulation and your period, and the app also helps to track PMS symptoms like food cravings.
- Glow
One of the most well-known fertility apps, Glow is a free menstrual and ovulation calculator as well as a basal body temperature (BBT) chart that records your period dates, mood, symptoms, sex and medications. Uniquely, it also provides support for women undergoing fertility treatments such as IVF or IUI. The daily health log allows users to record their emotions, stress levels, weight, exercise and more.
Editor’s Note:
Even if you use any of the apps that we mentioned above, when you eventually conceive, we highly recommend that you download the Baby Center app! This is the most comprehensive pregnancy tracker app available. It literally gives you a picture of what is inside your uterus from the moment you confirm that you are pregnant and through the baby’s early years.
