They say that experience is the best teacher but, when it comes to the realm of intimacy, there’s no harm in a little pre-education. Sex is a deeply personal journey, one that often carries a multi…
Can You Find True Love on Dating Sites?

Love is a beautiful thing and there’s no denying what lengths we are willing to go to experience it. Fairy Tales made us believe that our perfect Prince Charming would swoop in on a horse and we would ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after. I believed that too, until I realized my Prince Charming could actually be one swipe to the right way.
The movie “The Tinder Swindler” got me thinking: Can we find true love on dating sites? How feasible are online relationships? Okay, in this day and age, if you haven’t opened a Tinder account or visited any other dating sites because of heartbreak, curiosity or the need for convenience, I need you to point me in the direction of your dating pool, it must be working.
With the current dependency on technology and social media, I think many relationships these days probably begin on instagram, Facebook or dating apps. I have seen hashtags like #WeMetOnTwitter that seem to show that people actually find love on social networks. There are quite a number of relationships that start with a DM or a casual swipe to the right. Celebrity couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s beautiful romance started with a DM from Nick on Instagram and the rest is history – they are happily married and recently had a baby girl.
I love convenience and, honestly, online dating is the true definition of this. For shy and introverted people like myself, this is a blessing. The thought of going out to meet new people is so overwhelming sometimes. I think love is a feeling that transcends distance and, if you find your online soulmate, it can actually work – as long as you are taking all the measures to be safe because some people actually take advantage of online dating to harm others.
Here are a few tips to help you navigate the online dating scene:
- Make sure you are ready to date. To get the most out of the whole dating experience, make sure you are ready to date. Let go of all your past baggage..it’s too heavy and unnecessary.
- Visit reliable dating sites. Make sure you do some thorough research on the app/site before signing up. Be careful not to join any websites you are not sure about.
- Be honest on your profile. An honest profile makes it easier to find a perfect match. Include your name, hobbies and other things you feel are important to you.
- Take caution when meeting your date for the first time. Choose a public place such as a restaurant, park or library. It would also be a great idea to inform your friends and family of where you will be going – just to be safe.
- Be open minded. Being open minded will make it easier for you to enjoy the experience. Don’t be afraid to try new things.
Although some people still prefer traditional ways of dating and often dismiss online dating, that doesn’t mean it’s ineffective. Remember your Prince Charming could be just one swipe away. True love finds us in the most unexpected places and comes in many forms so why wouldn’t it come in the form of a stranger that wants to get to know you on Tinder?
